Editors’ Review
During the time leading up to March Madness, many offices across the country organize their own pools. With OfficePool 2013 for Mac, users can set up tournaments and make their picks, but with functions below those available with similar Web-based services.
OfficePool 2013 is available as a free trial version with a time limit; the full program is available for $12.00. There was no native installer, but the program downloaded and installed quickly. While OfficePool 2013 for Mac came with no instructions, setup is fairly intuitive for those who have used similar Web-based applications. Support exists for downloading current tournament rosters when they become available, but additional support is unknown. The icons and interface appear dated when compared to other similar programs, especially considering this is a paid program. When users are in the main screen, the tournament bracket does load quickly, and users make their round-by-round picks by clicking the team they think will win. Other options are available for pool managers and for Web forms to use. The application also purports to track results, but this could not be tested. An FTP button is also clearly marked to log into a server directly from the program for transfers.
While the program is functional, the basic interface and usability of OfficePool 2013 for Mac lag behind other, freely available, Web-based tournament hosting options.
Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of OfficePool 2013 for Mac 1.0.1.
