Midi Player enables you to edit melodies in MIDI file format. With this software, you can enhance loudness, tempo, pitch, notes, and more.

You can customize the midi inputs and outputs to match your needs perfectly. The software allows for instant adjustments to sounds and instruments during live performances on any channel. You have the ability to mute or solo tracks individually, making it simple to get the exact sound you want. The flexible tempo and pitch controls let you alter the speed and pitch of your music while it plays, giving you creative freedom.

The virtual piano feature turns your computer keyboard into a musical instrument. You can change octaves with simple key presses, and there’s a chord mode for more musical versatility. SoundFont Midi Player supports a variety of file types, including midi, karaoke, and module files like mod, xm, s3m, and it.

Playback issue: Try as we might, we could not get this software to play back effectively on the test system.
Complicated interface: The interface is very congested and complicated, especially if you've never worked with MIDI software.
Outdated design: The icons, fonts, and design in general all look as though they are decades old.

Bottom Line

Between playback issues and an outdated interface, Midi Player doesn't have much to recommend it when it is held up against the modern, more effective alternatives that are available.

1. Added '2x Window Size' option to context menu of Visualization(Spectrum & Channels) dialog to get bigger/better quality display.
2. Added optimization to midi files that do not leave enough time for notes to decay at end of song.
3. Added 'Automatically apply solo/mute to selected Channel' button next to solo/mute buttons.
4. Added hotkeys for changing programs real-time.
5. Also added hotkeys (0..9) to select user definable patches.
6. Fixed changing octave when chord mode is on can result in hanging notes.
7. Updated Bass/Bassmidi libraries.

Pros
Although you need to understand music and play an instrument or two to use such programs, it was still a lot of fun to explore. In the end I double clicked on the supplied wave file and joined in by cliking random notes and having a good laugh at my mess. Well done to the author/s, I can tell a lot of hard work has gone into this program. Loved the graphic equalizer and would love to get my hands on that code! :)
Cons
A larger keyboard will be easier to click notes more accurately.
Summary
Lot's of options and fun that can easily get a lot more serious if the author enlarges everything. Use the whole screen guys.
Amazing, Lightweight MIDI Player. Advanced Capabilities

Pros
Works perfectly on Windows 8.1 64 bit, not many alternatives do! Lightweight. Requires no installation. Runs direct from USB sticks! Even runs off a floppy disk! Bi-directional patch control. Tiny screen real estate but powerful controls. Brilliant recording capabilities. Convert MIDI to WAV and record over the top if you like! Many more features than first appears but very simple to use. Slick with hardware instruments. Supports Technics NX Sound. Also supports GM, GM2, GS & XG The editors review of this program completely misses the point of the player. Something obviously went drastically wrong if it didn't work and they should have asked the developer. As you can tell, I am a massive fan of this program! Get it, you will be delighted!
Cons
You must read the Readme file, not all operations are immediately apparent. I would prefer a separate line of controls for each MIDI channel but the player is tiny so this is a minor consideration. I would prefer to see the MIDI filename without the path (and hover for the path name). It would be great to see the MIDI file size or modified date in the playlist panel but I guess most users won't need this.
Summary
I've been using this Midiplayer for quite a few months now and the programmer updates it regularly. I discovered it when I updated my computer to Windows 8.1 64 bit. Midi support in 8.1 s is absolutely dire. This works out of the box and is very easy to set up, giving you superb controls. I just wanted a small player to audition midis but I soon discovered that Midiplayer works brilliantly with my hardware keyboards and controllers. In fact, I had completely underestimated what it is capable of doing with both my hardware and software instruments. When the programmer heard that I was using Technics boards and that they have their own sysex, similar to GS etc, he actually built in support for Technics keyboards. This has to be the first and only Midiplayer with that feature! Bi-directional support was something I overlooked because I had only set the program up to send MIDI. My setup has thousands of instrument sounds, way beyond the General Midi sound set, this is now a killer application for me, it saves me from looking up the patch numbers in books! Invaluable for KN7000, other NX capable models and even the pre-NX and pre-GM keyboards. I don't use midi lyrics myself but lyrics support has recently been improved, it now looks great and can expand to full screen instantly. It is a permanent program on my USB sticks and will run direct from them and just for fun before posting this review I've run it from a floppy disk, playing a midi file off the same floppy disk!
Handy advanced midi player for tech-savvy users

Pros
This program is rather lightweight so can be used on any PC. Very feature rich so you can fine tune your midi files during playback easily. You can freely select the desired midi output port that is very useful on Windows 8 because the lack of midi mapper functionality. Capable of recording midis to wave files together with real time midi input.
Cons
Outdated user interface. Not the best karaoke/lyrics display Beginners can be lost in the details.
Summary
I have tried this software with my Roland keyboard and some of my favorite rock midis. I have recorded the jamming to a wave file and everything worked well. I think this midi program is not for everyone but for more advanced users who wish to play and experiment with midi.
