Finding lost application install keys is quick and simple with this handy executable, a complete rewrite of a well-received earlier version. Keyfinder Thing's simple, easy-to-understand interface has Wizard-like efficiency. This application quickly scans your system registry for 90 supported software titles and displays product names and icons in the result window. Single-button clicks copy all keys to either a text or HTML file. While an earlier version found software keys in addition to the ones supported, this version covered only 90 specified titles. Network searches are no longer available, but program search speed has greatly improved. All users can easily use and benefit from this freeware, but network administrators will find it an important part of their toolbox.

Got my Win 7 product key in about 3 seconds after installation.
Cons
None that I could see.
Summary
I don't understand the bad reviews- the software installed flawlessly and I was able to get my lost Win 7 product key immediately. To top it off, it's free. 5 stars to the programmer!
It does what is is suppose to.

It is fast and accurate. Easy to use within it's parameters.
Cons
You cannot select which drive you want to work with. I found this to be a big hole the program. I have 2 HD's and 2 CD/DVD drives that I use, and I want be able to start Keyfinder Thing 3.1.6 and then have it ask me where to go; C:, D:,E: F: J: and a multi Card Reader or whateverelse I might be using to keep programs on..

Recovers A few More Keys than the Program "Product Key"

Pros
It does recover a few more keys than the Product Key but actually I have none on my computer and it is loaded. They appear to be mostly older programs that are now superseded by newer ones.
Cons
Doesn't recover enough to be worth the effort. They have another program for $25 that does recover more and that is called "Recover Keys." I doubt it is worth the price.I could see$5.95 but not $24.95.
Summary
Don't bother. Make a speadsheet in Excel and everytime you get a new program enter the product registration information. You'll be money ahead and have a better and more complete record.

Does not find keys to very many programs. You have to buy other software for more programs, which is okay if you only want the Microsoft keys.

KeyFinder Thing is a simple utility to retrieve the Serial numbers or CD Keys of Microsoft software installed on your system. It includes options to export the list of found keys and a search option to find keys not included by default.

Version 3.1.6 has added software: Belarc Advisor, added software: SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition, added software: Smart Projects ISOBuster, added software: Indigo Rose Setup Factory 6, added software: Office Pro Plus 2007 Beta, added option to export to HTML Removed views option, added more details to existing software, fixed bug in Copy Key Toolbar button where no item was selected. Removed 16 x 16 images all image 32 x 32 (tile display only) Support for Windows Vista.
