The War - A Ken Burns film

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
Ironically I have read about a lot of hardcore baseball fans and historians that didn't like his baseball documentary as well as his other ones even though they said it was basically all right. Some people thought its focus was too narrow with him focusing way too much on New York teams when baseball had a lot of history elsewhere. He also seemed to leave a lot of things out.

I saw the "Baseball" documentary from him and to be honest...it was OK at best. He left out A LOT of extremely meaningful events and chose to completely ignore certain issues that had a huge impact on baseball and how it was/is viewed by the world.

It was good, in the sense that he did give "unknowledgable" people a lot of information that they definitely didn't know, but to people who know the history of baseball, it wasn't that impressive.

Well, Burns himself has said this wasnt meant to be the definitive WW2 documentary as World at War pretty much was. He was going into stories told by the people that lived during and fought in the War in those four cities. So, he doesnt talk about the invasion of Guam because no one he interviewed in those cities fought in Guam.

It's different, but great all the same. The stories told are pretty amazing. Im certainly glad he didnt gloss over the Japanese "internment," as many documentaries do. The highway by my place is named after the 442nd Regiment (the all japanese-american one), so hearing the stories after learning about them so long ago in high school was a special treat.
